Big government is a term that refers to government system or public sector that is considered to be too large or overly involved in areas of the private sector or in creating public policy. One extreme example could be in which a federal government agency would try to dictate how an individual may dress or eat. But that is just one far-reaching example. You can normally see big government at work when attempts are made to create federalized programs to implement what is traditionally state level programs or in the realm of a private organization such a non-profit group or church.
You can also see Big government at work when large bureaucracies have no accountability or it lacks checks and balances when they have no way of verifying the return on investment or efficacy. One recent example of Big Government under fire is the Department of Veteran Affairs. The head of VA said, “that it was unfair to judge the VA by how long veterans have to wait for medical care since no one judges Disney World by how long people have to wait in line.” This insensitivity to the health of our veterans shows how substandard their standards have become and continue to be.
One of the fundamental problems of Big Government is how it lends itself to CRONYISM.
Cronyism is a term used when describing a person in power or politician who gives positions of influence to associates with no regard to their qualifications. This is most recognizable in government officials because they are often spending money that is not their own, but is the taxpayers money. Cronyism is the ugly union that has lead to special interest group having the ear of our politicians. One politician that has been under fire for this recently is Hillary Clinton. Her husband runs the Clinton Foundation with takes millions of dollars from foreign countries that have major human and women’s rights violations against them. The International Business Times recently reported that $165 billion of commercial grade weapons were allocated to 20 countries that had given money to Hillary Clinton’s Foundation. This misuse of power is what leads to different special interest groups always getting a seat at the table before the American people.
